Jennifer Lopez has been praised by fans for using gender-neutral pronouns to refer to her child ahead of a duet at one of her shows.

During a performance in Los Angeles on 16 June, the Love Don’t Cost a Thing hitmaker welcomed her 14-year-old child, Emme Maribel Muñiz, to the stage. “The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won’t,” J.Lo told the audience. “So this is a very special occasion.” Throughout her introduction, the 52-year-old used they/them pronouns to reference her child. “They are very, very busy, booked and pricey,” she joked, continuing: “They cost me when they come out.

But they’re worth every single penny because they’re my favourite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me.” The two went on to perform a cover of A Thousand Years by Christina Perri, as well as parts of Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen and J.Lo’s very own Let’s Get Loud.
