From pop to synth-wave, these queer music picks are not to be missed

Naman Ramachandran Maureen Duffy‘s 1966 book “The Microcosm” has been adapted as a film featuring two-time Oscar winner Glenda Jackson. In 1966 London, when homosexuality was still criminalized, The Gateways club in Chelsea offered a haven for women to dance, express themselves and love who they want. In the book, based on her own experience, Duffy examined if this gay bar, and those like it, really offered the freedom its patrons crave. In the film, Jackson, along with director Joe Ingham, draw parallels between the past and the present and explore the uncomfortable paradox that exists within queer spaces. The Cheerio production featuring an original score by Helen Noir and animation by Rebecca L. Weil, opens at museum of British LGBTQ history, Queer Britain, London, on Oct. 12.

Zack Sharf Michaela Coel is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and she confirmed to Vogue magazine that her character will be the latest queer character in the MCU. Marvel brought its first openly gay hero to the big screen in “Eternals” with Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, and now Coel will also be playing a queer character with Aneka, a captain and combat instructor in the Dora Milaje who is in love with fellow warrior Ayo (Florence Kasumba). Aneka’s sexuality is the main reason Coel decided to sign on to star in the “Black Panther” sequel. “That sold me on the role, the fact that my character’s queer,” Coel says. “I thought: I like that, I want to show that to Ghana.”

Donald Trump told Mike Pence that gay people love him, according to a new book by The New York Times' Maggie Haberman.In Haberman's book, Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America, she detailed Trump's behavior and actions throughout his presidency.In one particular extract, on page 299, she detailed the conversation Trump had with conservative donor and philanthropist Paul Singer.Trump allegedly made this statement when Pence attempted to leave the room after Singer revealed that he was in favor of gay rights and had supported them as his son was homosexual.During the meeting, which took place as Trump, Pence and his aides prepared the president for a press conference, Trump made idle chat with Singer, according to the book.When asked by Trump "how conservative are you?" “Queer Maximalism x Machine Dazzle” exhibit at New York’s MAD (the Museum of Arts and Design), Pennsylvania-born Machine Dazzle has long specialized in uniquely flamboyant, eye-popping — and, at times — political ensembles for artists like the Dazzle Dancers (a ’90s performance group of semi-clad strippers/variety show-style entertainers) and Taylor Mac (the successfully subversive Off-Broadway playwright/performer). The 50-year-old designer, born Matthew Flower, put down his BeDazzler for a second to tell Queerty how activism has infused his designs.Hi, Machine. So you adore things that are homemade and handmade, correct?Definitely.

Hey, remember that time Queer Eye’s Antoni Porowski did a random American Psycho parody for two and a half minutes? Like, what was that about?What it was about was this: back in 2018, Netflix did a bunch of horror-themed short films called Don’t Watch This because I guess it was Halloween back then? And also, why not? Netflix just, like, lit money on fire in 2018!Full disclosure, I’ve never seen and have no intention of seeking out any of the other installments in Don’t Watch This (got it, you don’t have to tell me twice, Netflix!). But the devastatingly cleverly titled “Antoni Psycho” (GET IT? HIS FIRST NAME STARTS WITH THE SAME LETTER AS AMERICAN! JUST LIKE AMERICAN PSYCHO!) is a dazzling mini masterpiece that should probably be in the Criterion Collection, and 100% deserves to be revisited now that it is Halloween Time 2022.Ok, so remember the movie version of American Psycho, which was a book by noted gaybones author Bret Easton Ellis who I think someone told me is maybe a white supremacist or something now? Anyway, this is basically the opening scene of that movie—or at least I think it was the opening scene.
