Less than a week after two people were arrested for trespassing at the apartment building of gay New York City Council member Erik Bottcher, police have now identified a third suspect who is wanted for assault. Bottcher represents the city’s District 3, including Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Hell’s Kitchen, Hudson Square, Flatiron, Times Square, the Theater District, and the Garment District. When The Advocate spoke to City Council Member Bottcher last Monday, he said that two people were arrested for entering his apartment building unlawfully and that a third suspect was being investigated for assaulting a nearby neighbor of Bottcher.The neighbor was on his way home to his building down the block when he encountered the multiple hate groups stationed outside Bottcher’s building in Chelsea, Bottcher said. Now, police have identified David Nieves as the accused assailant. Authorities allege Nieves struck his victim in the face, cutting the victim.

Police have arrested two men in connection with a string of robberies and murders of men who were picked up at bars in NYC.Kenwood Allen, 33, and another unnamed man were arrested and charged with the drug-induced deaths of two men, although police said more charges are expected as their investigation continued.Police alleged the two men were part of a crew who drugged and then robbed unsuspecting men after they had left various Manhattan bars beginning in March of this year, according to a report in the New York Post.Allen was charged with the March 18 death of Nurbo Shera and the July 30 death of Ardijan Berisha. (CNN) -- The FBI on Friday arrested a Texas man who allegedly called and threatened a Boston doctor who was providing care to transgender individuals, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Massachusetts said in a news release.Matthew Jordan Lindner, 38, has been charged with one count of transmitting interstate threats and is scheduled to appear at a federal court in Boston at "a later date," the release said. He is being held without bail, The New York Times reported.CNN has reached out to Lindner's attorney for comment.According to a criminal complaint, false information began spreading on social media in August alleging that health care providers at the Boston Children's Hospital were performing hysterectomies and gender affirmation surgeries on patients younger than 18.

(CNN) – A ‘Tornado Tuesday’ of severe storms is expected to deliver the potential for a monstrous trio of tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail to millions of people across parts of the Southeast and Mississippi Valley beginning Tuesday afternoon, forecasters are warning.More than 40 million people from southeastern Texas eastward to Georgia, and northward to central Indiana and Illinois are under a threat of severe weather Tuesday, according to the Storm Prediction Center.The largest potential for the most severe weather is for about 1 million people in parts of central Mississippi, including Jackson, as well as parts of east-central Louisiana. In those areas, the threat for severe weather, including large hail and possible tornadoes, is a Level 4 of 5, with 5 being the highest, according to prediction the center.The Level 4, or moderate threat, is rare for this time of year for that region, which usually sees tornadoes during the spring and summer months.“Severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, very large hail, and a few severe wind gusts are expected this afternoon into the overnight period across parts of the lower to mid-Mississippi Valley and parts of the Southeast,” the prediction center said.

(CNN) -- The World Health Organization announced Monday that "mpox" is now the preferred name for monkeypox."Both names will be used simultaneously for one year while 'monkeypox' is phased out," the organization said.The Biden administration said they "welcome the change" and the US will use the mpox name "from this point forward."Monkeypox was named in 1970, more than a decade after the virus that causes the disease was discovered in captive monkeys, the organization said. But monkeypox probably didn't start in monkeys -- its origin is still unknown -- and the virus can be found in several other kinds of animals.The name was created before WHO published best practices for naming diseases in 2015.Scientists and experts have pushed since the start of the recent outbreak to change the name to avoid discrimination and stigma that could steer people away from testing and vaccination.

A local gay man was arrested on Tuesday for the recent brick attacks on a popular Hell’s Kitchen gay bar in NYC. Sean Kuilan, 34, was taken into custody and charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon for three of the four incidents at the VERS gay nightclub which took place within the past two weeks, The Gothamist reports. Three of the incidents were caught on video, and Kuilan was identified with the help of tips to the Crime Stoppers hotline.NYPD chief of detectives James Essig said investigators do not believe the crimes were motivated by anti-gay hatred, but instead resulted from a personal dispute Kuilan’s female friend had with the VERS nightclub.“Basically, what he says [is] he knows a girl who had a problem with one of the guys in the bar and he was ‘exacting revenge,’” Essig was quoted by the NY Post. “As of right now we don’t have any reason to believe it is [a hate crime].”Video of the “perp walk” at the NY Post showed the muscled and handcuffed Kulian escorted to an awaiting unmarked police car.“I’m gay myself,” he quietly responded to reporters’ questions in the video.“Something personal,” he responded when asked why he allegedly threw the bricks.Kuilan, who reportedly goes by the moniker “Paper Kid” in the neighborhood, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for a 2021 incident of menacing.

Colorado prosecutors have filed hate crime and murder charges against the suspect in Saturday night’s anti-LGBTQ mass shooting. Five people, including employees of the LGBTQ nightclub Club Q were killed, another 25 were injured. The suspect is believed to have used an AR-15 style rifle.

The owner of a gay bar in NYC says his establishment has been attacked multiple times in recent days, but police appeared disinterested in investigating.David DeParolesa, the owner of VERS gay bar in Hell’s Kitchen, told the Gothamist an unidentified man has thrown bricks at the windows of his bar three times in the last week, and four times overall.
