Ricky Martin has denied claims of domestic abuse after being issued a restraining order in Puerto Rico. The singer was issued the restraining order under Puerto Rico’s Domestic Abuse Prevention and Intervention Act on Friday (1 July) after complaints arose from an anonymous former partner who split with Martin after a seven month relationship.

According to Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero, the anonymous petitioner filed the report after Martin allegedly did not accept the separation from his partner, and has been loitering near the former partner’s house on several occasions.

The order reportedly states that Martin is not permitted to contact the person who filed the order. The anonymous complainant did not contact the police before filing the order and instead went straight to the court.

A judge is set to decide during a later hearing whether the order will remain in place. On Monday (July 4), Martin took to Twitter to deny the allegations and thank his supporters for their solidarity: “The protection order entered against me is based on completely false allegations, so I will respond through the judicial process with the facts and the dignity that characterise me.” He continued: “Because it is an ongoing legal matter, I cannot make detailed statements at this time.
