WASHINGTON — The White House, under pressure to contain a growing monkeypox outbreak, announced on Thursday that it was sending 1.8 million vaccine doses to jurisdictions that agree to use a new vaccination protocol, as public health officials prepare for Gay Pride events and the return to college campuses, which they fear could hasten spread of the virus. The Biden administration has not acquired additional doses of the monkeypox vaccine. Instead, it is trying to stretch the existing stockpile by promoting a different method of administration that uses one-fifth as much per shot.

New York City released new data on Thursday showing racial disparities in monkeypox vaccine access, with far fewer Black people receiving doses of the scarce vaccine. . White New Yorkers represent about 45 percent of people at heightened risk of monkeypox infection, and received 46 percent of vaccine doses.

(CNN) -- Weeks after Airbnb said it would permanently ban parties at properties rented through its platform, the company is deploying so-called “anti-party technology” in the United States and Canada to help enforce the measure.The new system analyzes a variety of factors, according to a company announcement Tuesday, including previous reviews, how long a user has been on the platform, the length of the stay, and whether the rental is occurring on a weekend or weekday.The goal, Airbnb said, is to “help identify potentially high-risk reservations” and prevent those users from completing a booking. Those who are unable to book homes as a result of the anti-party tech will have the option to reserve a hotel room or a private room (rather than an entire property where a host is less likely to be present) through the platform, Airbnb said.Airbnb made its ban on all parties and events permanent in June, about two years after announcing a temporary prohibition.

The first known film with a gay love story was made more than 100 years ago.Greatly predating Brokeback Mountain, Making Love, and all the rest, the 1919 German film Different From the Others tells the story of two men who fall in love, one a prominent musician and the other his protégé, and are threatened by a blackmailer. The film argues for the acceptance of homosexuality.The Outfest UCLA Legacy Project restored the film to the extent possible a few years ago.
