North Carolina rejects bill against trans athletes

Lawmakers in North Carolina, US, have discarded a bill which aimed to prohibit trans athletes from participating in school sports on the basis that no evidence was found to suggest trans inclusion harmed cisgender students.
According to The Charlotte Observer, House speaker Tim Moore confirmed House Bill 358, otherwise known as the ‘Save Women’s Sports Act’ has been unsuccessful after legislators found no records of any complaints regarding trans athletes in the state.
Moore said: “A wise legislature does not go out looking for social issues to tap.” The announcement comes a week after it was confirmed that a bill opposing trans access to healthcare would also be scrapped.
