James Gunn Says Velma Was Written As Gay in 2002's 'Scooby-Doo' But The Studio Blocked It

justjared.comJames Gunn revealed a little known fact about 2002′s popular Scooby-Doo movie, which he wrote the script for.
Over the weekend, the 53-year-old filmmaker responded to a fan who urged him to return to the franchise and write Velma, who was played by Linda Cardellini, as gay.
Turns out, that James did – but that version of her didn’t make it to screen because the studio blocked it. “I tried!
In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script,” James wrote back. He explained, “But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).” James did say however that there are deleted scenes you can watch from the DVD that
