Former Rangers boss Dick Advocaat has told his old Ibrox protege Gio van Bronckhorst to grasp Europa League glory and the lasting Champions League legacy it promises.

In an exclusive interview with Record Sport ahead of Wednesday’s date with destiny, the Dutchman reveals his pride at seeing his former pupil lead the Light Blues all the way to Seville.

And he reckons the £50million bonanza on offer if Rangers go all the way and topple Frankfurt at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium could be enough to ensure the Ibrox outfit are dining out at UEFA’s top table for years to come.

The former Holland boss said: “Gio has some good players in his team but if you win the Europa League, you no doubt earn some more money too. “Maybe then he can buy one, two, even three good players and make the team stronger again.“It’s remarkable they’ve made it this far considering what the team has been able to spend.“But if you want to do this on a regular basis then you need a wider squad with more competition.“For me, if you make the final of the Europa League you’re already at a level where you can play in the Champions League, there’s no doubts about that.“But the extra revenue will allow them to build and stabilise for many years to come.”Get all the latest Rangers news sent straight to your Inbox every day by signing up to our newsletter. We cover every morsel of information regarding your favourite club in the form of articles, videos and podcasts. The newsletter will arrive every day at 12pm, giving you a round up of the best stories we've covered that in the last 24 hours. To sign up, simply enter your email address into the link here. And if you aren't already, make sure you join the conversation over on our Rangers Facebook group
