The Bay Area Reporter's October 25, 2012 issue featured an in-person interview with U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein — the first that California's senior senator had given the paper since she was elected to the upper chamber of Congress in 1992.
In the wide-ranging interview Feinstein talked about her work to repeal the federal Defense of Marriage Act and opened up a bit about the 1978 assassinations of gay supervisor Harvey Milk and mayor George Moscone.
Because she was president of the Board of Supervisors at the time, Feinstein became mayor, a post she held for a decade. Feinstein predicted that San Francisco will one day elect an LGBTQ mayor, but that hasn't happened yet, though several out candidates have tried to reach Room 200 in City Hall.
